Full Form of PNR: Passenger Name Record
PNR Full Form is Passenger Name Record. PNR refers to the record of a person or group of people (or passengers) traveling on a train or on a flight. After one enters their personal details and reserves a ticket, the complete information is normally stored in the CRS or Computer Reservation System with a distinctive 10-digit alphanumeric code, which helps to locate the record. Once generated, the PNR remains unchanged forever.
PNR numbers are generated by the travel website through which people book. Travel agencies are also helping passengers obtain PNRs. These logs are extremely useful for tracking past or future travel records for various reasons; to find the current status of a future reservation and to change the status of a ticket or cancel tickets as required.
PNR Full form Name: additional information
As the population increases, so does the travel. There are several reasons why people travel. It can be for work or business, students traveling for education to different state universities, traveling to attend a function or simply for relaxed pleasure. But traveling has become a part of everyone’s life. There are several modes of transport: by road, by rail and by air. However, the reservation of road transport is instantaneous; while for train and air, one has to book in advance to secure a seat. When a person makes a reservation, they are given a PNR number.
What is the PNR?
PNR stands for Passenger Name Record, which are the details of the passenger traveling by plane or train. These are the passenger’s itinerary data stored in the CRS database or Computerized Reservation System. This PNR was first introduced for air travel since many times the passenger had to make interconnected flights of different airlines.
Therefore, to maintain the link of their trip, the Passenger Name Registration system was initiated so that there could be a defined data source that pertains only to that particular passenger. This record was then distributed to the other airlines to make the booking process smooth for the passenger.
In current circumstances, it is very difficult to get a confirmed train reservation on the first trip due to the large influx of travelers. Therefore, when a person tries to book a ticket, their name is registered in the Computerized Reservation System, thus generating their travel information.
Even if the passenger is on the waiting list, you can track the status of your reservation simply by tracking the PNR. As the reservation is updated, the status of the PNR changes and shows the passenger their current position. In this way, you can track your reservation simply by entering the PNR code online, without the need to visit the station.
Why is the PNR required?
When a person tries to make travel reservations, they are entered into a database in the computerized reservation system of the airline or railroad. However, with so many threats from terrorism and criminals in general, it is essential to take precautions for the safety of passengers. This made some items essential when making a reservation.
Passenger Name Record lists the name of the passenger (or passengers if it is a group reservation), age, gender, date of birth, starting point of the trip, desired destination and date of the trip. In the case of a return reservation, the expected date of return must also be mentioned.
In the case of a train, the passenger must cite the name / number of the chosen train and, as far as airlines are concerned, This is the name and route of the carrier flight. In addition, the traveler must provide their passport details.
These detailed data help to know the identity of the person for air travel and for train travel it is mandatory that the passenger carry some proof of identity to verify the details revealed during the reservation.
PNR Privacy Concerns
It is true that for security reasons the Government has made it mandatory to enter all the passenger’s personal data. However, all disclosure such as name, date of birth, address, contact number, as well as credit card details, etc. it may not be the best for the protection of passenger privacy. This can cause security issues for the traveler, as their data is stored in the CRS and is not deleted even after the end of the trip.
The data remains in the system, but is simply transferred from the live state to the archive and can be accessed at any time by simply entering the reservation number on the ticket. Like any other threat, there is the potential for criminals to misuse the passenger’s personal data. Each system has its pros and cons.
In this system, data collected for government security reasons can be beneficial to the government, as it can remain on the alert after obtaining details of travel plans proposed by criminals; however, for the common and innocent traveler, it may be a violation of their privacy. if the wrong people access the data. PNRs do not receive the same confidentiality protection as medical or financial data. On the other hand, they are considered mere records of business transactions.
Forming a PNR
A PNR is a 10-digit code that gives an individual identity to the passenger since it is where they enter their entire itinerary. If a reservation is made through an agent, it is also saved in the agent’s company database. Then it is easier for the agent to coordinate with the airline if the passenger is flying or with the train reservation system. In the case of air travel, the agent provides the personal data such as name, age, gender, passport number and proposed destination of the passenger to the airline’s reservation office.
Here, the details are entered into your computerized reservation system and the random number is generated which is linked to the details of that particular passenger. All the details of your trip about changes in flights, flight schedules, different destinations, etc. they are stored under the PNR code. It also includes additional information such as medical assistance, food preferences, passenger status (child traveling alone, retiree, person in a wheelchair or disabled, etc.).
Rarely has the passenger traveled throughout his journey in a single plane. Normally, there are changes not only in airplanes but also in aircraft carriers. Therefore, it is essential that the airline of departure, as well as the agent, know how the passenger is going to travel forward. Consequently, they partner with the other airlines to channel the trip with the least inconvenience to the passenger. Therefore, the PNR is shared between the various aircraft operators and the agent to keep track of last minute changes in flight times, baggage rules, etc. to inform the traveler.
How useful is the PNR?
As mentioned above, with criminal and terrorist threats, States demand to have full knowledge about the people who travel from one place to another, so that they can intercept the criminal if he is spotted and the security of the State is not in danger.
Traveling has become an important part of a person’s life today. However, in a rush everywhere, it is difficult to get a confirmed reservation and then the wait begins. The PNR status tells the passenger if they are likely to travel as they wish or not. This gives you the freedom and flexibility to re-plan the trip or modify the previous reservation.

For a long time the term was used as a reference to the formula for the radius of action and it was only after 1947 that the term became increasingly part of the common vocabulary. Being the first national reserve in the country, it would be convenient to briefly know its administrative history. In 1983, the PNR was called the biosphere reserve. It is an area affiliated with the National Park Service, which is the agency of the United States federal government that manages all of the United States’ national parks, monuments, and other properties of similar importance. The Organic Law of the National Park Service is the empowering legislation that provides for the establishment of the National Park Service. The reserve is managed by the New Jersey Pine Land Commission.
The New Jersey Pinelands Commission is provided under the Pinelands Act of the New Jersey Legislature. The Act gave way to the institution of the commission in 1979. The main purpose of the commission is to preserve and protect the natural and cultural reserves of the Pinelands National Reserve and to employ measures aimed at park development. The commission’s constitution has 15 commissioners, among whom seven are appointed directly by the Governor of New Jersey subject to acceptance by the Senate. The other seven commissioners are selected by various New Jersey counties.
The counties participating in the appointment of commissioners are Atlantic, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Burlington, and Ocean. The remaining commissioner is appointed directly by the United States Secretary of the Interior. The commissioners’ term is three years and they do not receive any formal pay. The commission generally convenes monthly meetings and establishes development proposals or reviews existing preservation policies and programs to ensure better functioning of the reserve.
