Michigan police say up to 100 vehicles were involved in a mass collision on Interstate 96 during blackout conditions
LANSING, Mich. — Up to 100 vehicles were involved in a mass collision on Interstate 96 during full coverage conditions, Michigan police said.
There were reports of injuries that do not appear to be serious, police said on Twitter. Early reports said between 50 and 100 vehicles were in the crash Saturday near Portland, a city more than 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
Authorities released photos of cars reversing along the icy roads after the crash and said part of the interstate was closed.
Since then, the weather has improved, police said, though it is unknown when the interstate will reopen.
